Liverpool, Chelsea win first matches of season

LONDON (AP) — Liverpool's 11-year wait for a Premier League victory at Arsenal ended on Saturday, and Chelsea rallied against West Bromwich Albion to give Andre Villas-Boas his first win in charge.
Luis Suarez and Raul Meireles came off the bench to inspire Liverpool to a 2-0 win after Arsenal was reduced to 10 men when Emmanuel Frimpong received a second booking for a rash challenge on Lucas Leiva.
Aaron Ramsey inadvertently deflected in Liverpool's opener and Suarez netted the second in stoppage time against an Arsenal side depleted by injuries and suspensions.

"We live under circumstances where every defeat is an absolutely a disgrace and an earthquake," said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, whose side drew its opener last weekend. "We are very disappointed that we lost the game, but we are at the start of the season."
Chelsea, which also opened with a draw, beat West Brom 2-1 after Florent Malouda and Nicolas Anelka scored in the second half to wipe out Shane Long's fourth-minute goal.
In the northeast derby, Newcastle won 1-0 at Sunderland, while Alex McLeish's first home game as Aston Villa manager ended in a 3-1 victory over Blackburn.
Two newly promoted sides picked up their first points, with Queens Park Rangers winning 1-0 at Everton and Swansea drawing 0-0 against Wigan.

BERLIN (AP) — Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben started a rare match together and both scored to help Bayern Munich to a 5-0 win over Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Defender Daniel van Buyten put the home side ahead against his former club in the 13th minute, with Ribery scoring four minutes later.
Robben dinked the ball over Jaroslav Drobny to score in the 34th, Mario Gomez scored from a narrow angle in the 56th, and substitute Ivica Olic added the fifth in the 80th.
Goals from Robert Lewandowski and Kevin Grosskreutz helped defending champion Borussia Dortmund labor to a 2-0 home win over Nuremberg.

Werder Bremen beat Freiburg 5-3, Stuttgart lost 1-0 at home to Leverkusen, and Hoffenheim beat newcomer Augsburg 2-0.
Cologne remains bottom of the table after a 1-1 draw at home to Kaiserslautern in the late game failed to ease the pressure building on coach Stale Solbakken.

PARIS (AP) — Defending champion Lille earned its first win this season by beating Caen 2-1 in the French league on Saturday.
Lille midfielder Benoit Pedretti opened the scoring in the 70th minute after some fine work from winger Eden Hazard.
Mathieu Debuchy doubled the lead in the 88th by taking a pass from playmaker Ludovic Obraniak to beat Caen goalkeeper Alexis Thebaux.
Benjamin Nivet scored a consolation goal for Caen by converting a penalty in injury time after Obraniak handled the ball inside the area.
Also Saturday, it was: Brest 1, Lyon 1; Nice 1, Toulouse 1; Bordeaux 1, Auxerre 1; Dijon 2, Lorient 0. Ajaccio played Evian in the late match.

GLAGOW, Scotland (AP) — Aberdeen picked up its first win and its first goals of the Scottish Premier League season with a 2-0 victory over Inverness on Saturday.
Aberdeen had failed to find the back of the net in its first four matches but Rob Milsom took only 12 minutes to score.
Scott Vernon took advantage of a defensive mistake by Roman Golobart to drive the ball past goalkeeper Ryan Esson.
But Inverness pulled a goal back toward the end when Richie Foran seized on Youl Mawene's careless header before firing past David Gonzalez.
Also Saturday, Paul Burns' penalty kick against Dundee United secured Dunfermline's 1-0 win.
St. Mirren won 2-1 at Hibernian after striker Steven Thompson and midfielder Steven Thomson scored at the end of the second half.
